Reconstruction (technical upgrading) of the control and management system for the turbo-generator

Equipment used, specifics of works provided

Based on the OVATION software and hardware complex from Emerson, the following automated control systems have been implemented:

• for supporting the heating load of the turbine;
• for managing the operation of turbo-generator Unit No. 4 in primary, secondary, and tertiary frequency and power regulation for the energy system, as well as during the operation of emergency protection systems;
• for automatic unloading of the unit and power limitation of the unit;
• for providing self-diagnostics for the control system’s technical means and executed functions;
• for collecting and displaying current signal values (input and output) for the monitored equipment;
• for accumulating and storing all information for future review.

To monitor signs of deviations from normal operating conditions, turbo-generator Unit No. 4 is equipped with the following control points of the technological parameters:

• measurement of active and reactive power of the unit;
• measurement of rotor speed for the electronic safety relay (ESR);
• measurement of rotor speed for the electrical control system (ECS);
• measurement of relative expansions of rotors for CVT, CST, and CNT;
• measurement of thermal expansion of the casing (TEC);
• measurement of rotor distortion (RD);
• measurement of axial rotor displacement (ARD);
• measurement of vibration velocity of bearing housings;
• discrete input signals of the “dry contact” type are routed to the signal input modules for event sequencing in the Ovation control system;
• analog output signals of 4-20 mA are provided as voltage by the Ovation control system.
